Celebration of Tajik Press Day at the Tajik State University of Law, Business, and Politics
Today, at the Digital Education Center of the Tajik State University of Law, Business, and Politics, a meeting with journalists was held on the occasion of Tajik Press Day. Journalists from national and local media outlets, employees of the Department of Analysis and Public Relations of the university, and students participated in the event.
The opening speech was delivered by a rector of the university, Doctor of Economic Sciences Homid Khoshimzoda, who congratulated the guests on the occasion of Tajik Press Day. He emphasized that press is indeed one of the main tools influencing public opinion, playing a very significant role in the process of nation-building and in international relations. The press and information have gained increasing importance over time, and today, it is considered one of the most priority areas. On this day, which particularly honors the history of Tajik press and its contribution to the development of a country, we should express our gratitude to every journalist, editor, and media worker who contributes to raising public awareness and ensuring people’s rights to accurate information.
After that, the head of the Department of Analysis and Public Relations, Associate Professor Aslam Karimov, took the floor, noting that this day is significant for every journalist, editor, reporter, and all members of a journalistic community. It is not only a celebration of their hard work but also a tribute to the important role of press plays in the development of society. Tajik press has historically had an important and decisive role in educating and guiding the people, reflecting realities, and promoting development of the democratic, legal, and cultural society of a country. When talking about Tajik press, it is important to remember that we live in a world of information overload.
Next, the head of the Media Journalism Center, a trainer of both online and offline seminars on media literacy, philologist-journalist, Candidate of Philological Sciences Ilhomi Jamoliyon, in his speech, discussed the history of the first Tajik newspaper, “Bukhoro-i Sharif,” which was first published on March 11, 1912, at the printing press in the village of Kogon near Bukhara, and this day is celebrated as Tajik Press Day. He noted significant contribution of Mirzo Siroj and Ustod Sadriddin Aini in the publication and launch of this newspaper. The profession of journalism is a responsible one, as a professional journalist must examine issues thoroughly and deeply and then provide accurate information to a media.
He further mentioned that, fortunately, today several teachers and students of the university were accepted as members of the regional journalists’ organization, and a proposal to establish a regional journalists’ union at the university will be discussed and resolved.
Then, the editor-in-chief of the “Jumhuriyat” newspaper, Jovid Ashti, in his speech, mentioned: “It is symbolic that our people celebrate this day in the springtime, and this celebration is not only for journalists but for all the noble people of Tajikistan. Tajik journalism today plays a major role as one of the main tools influencing public opinion and awakening public consciousness.”
The head of a scientific section of the literary and scientific journal “Payomi Sughd,” Azami Khujasta, noted that the emergence of newspapers as an ancient form of media has a long history and originated in China in the VIIIth century. In his speech, the Leader of a Nation, President Emomali Rahmon, emphasized that preventing the spread of false information should be reflected in official media. In today’s world, where there are information wars and struggles, serious attention is given to the press, as people are always in contact with information and media outlets. He also recited a newly written poem in praise of Unity.
Next, the former editor-in-chief of the regional “Haqiqati Sughd” newspaper, holder of Lakhuti Prize, and the secretary of the regional journalists’ organization, Karimi Sharif, mentioned that in accordance with the directives of the Founder of Peace and National Unity, the Leader of the Nation, President Emomali Rahmon, today’s youth should master the state language and two or three foreign languages.
The editor-in-chief of the “Haqiqati Sughd” newspaper, Aminjon Sharifzoda, stated that contribution of Tajik writers and journalists, such as R. Jalil, H. Sodik, A. Shukuhi, H. Karim, and G. Rustam, was significant in an establishment and founding of the newspaper. Today, our journalists continue to carry out this important mission. The Tajik State University of Law, Business, and Politics is one of achievements of an era of independence, and today it has reached high milestones and exceptional successes.
At the end of an event, a question-and-answer session and productive discussions between students and journalists took place.
In conclusion, participants of an event were awarded symbolic gifts from the university.
