Political Science and International Relations

The Faculty of Political Science and International Relations was established on April 1, 2002, in accordance with the decision of an Academic Council of the Tajik State  University of law, business and politics and the resolution of the Board of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan.

The first Dean of the faculty was Professor Ya.I. Islamov, a diplomat and Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Envoy of the Soviet Union. Subsequently, the duties of the dean were performed by Associate Professors A. Rahimov and M. Yusupov, as well as Professor I. Rahimi. Later, Associate Professor J. Jurazoda served as head of the Faculty during 2005–2006 and 2009–2012. From 2012 to 2016, the faculty was headed by Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor F. Homidov. From September 2016 to April 2024, the position was held by Doctor of Political Sciences, Professor, Honored Educator of the Republic of Tajikistan, and recipient of the Medal “Khizmati Shoista,” M. Akmalova. From April 2024 to September 2025, the duty of the dean was carried out by Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor D.F. Mainusov.

Currently, the position of dean of the faculty of Political Science and International Relations is held by Candidate of Political Sciences, Associate Professor Saidzoda Shukhrat Shukur.

The primary objective of the Faculty of Political Science and International Relations is to enhance students’ political, diplomatic, and intercultural knowledge and to train highly qualified specialists in the fields of political science, international relations, intercultural communication, and linguistics.

In 2018, the faculty introduced new academic major:
1-23.01.02.02 – Linguistic Support of Intercultural Communication (International Tourism, instruction in English); 1-23.01.02.05 – Linguistic Support of Intercultural Communication (Foreign Economic Relations, Chinese language).

The administrative staff of the faculty includes the dean, Candidate of Political Sciences, Associate Professor Saidzoda Sh.Sh.; the Deputy Dean for Research, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Nurmahmadov Yu.Sh.; the Deputy Dean for Educational Affairs, Senior Lecturer Akhmedov Sh.; and Advisor Ibragimov R.H.

The teaching staff of the Faculty consists of 73 members, including 4 professors, 30 candidates of sciences, 13 senior lecturers, and 26 assistants.

The Faculty of Political Science and International Relations maintains ongoing cooperation with the Russian State University for Humanities, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Kazan State University of the Russian Federation, the Central Asian Resource and Education Center, the Strategic Research Institute under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, NARXOZ University of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the University of Kentucky, universities of the United Kingdom, Czech State University, Charles University in Prague, Xinjiang Pedagogical University (Urumqi, China), CIS consulates, ministries, research centers, and higher education institutions of the Republic.
