Events dedicated to Mehrgon holiday in TSULBP

Educational, literary and up bringing events were organized and held on the occasion of Mehrgon holiday at the faculties of Political science and International Relations, Finance and Taxation.

At the event venue, agricultural products typical of Mehrgon holiday were exhibited. During celebration of this holiday, teachers and students gave information about its history.

It was revealed that Mehrgon is one of the oldest holidays of an autumn season, which has been celebrated among Persian-speaking peoples. It arose along with the development of agriculture and introduction of agricultural calendar. Mehrgon is a harvest festival that begins on the day of an autumn equinox.  Autumnal equinox means the equinox of a day and night at the beginning of autumn season. Mehrgon was held on the 16th day of Mehrmonth, which was considered auspicious by ancient Iranians and celebrated.

Our ancestors were preparing for Mehrgon holiday, organized public celebrations, and did beautification works. On the day of a holiday, they put on new clothes, go for a walk and visit friends, lay the Mehrgon table with sweets, fruits and vegetables.
